Weekend Planner: Benefits all over schedule

The Prairie Winds Zoo will be here at the Albert Lea Public Library to kick off National Library Week with shows at 1 and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5.
The performance is sponsored by The Friends of the Library and all ages are welcome.
Following is a roundup of other events happening in the area this weekend.
Friday, April 4
&045; The Junior/Senior Freeborn County High School Art Show opens at the Albert Lea Art Center. Gallery hours are from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free.
&045; Our Father’s House, 18358 Highway 69 S., Albert Lea, will hold a rummage sale from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be clothing, shoes and linens. A freewill offering will be received.
&045; Northbridge Mall will host a home-based business show from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. This is an opportunity for people to visit with entrepreneurs who do business out of their homes. These businesses are participating in this year’s show: Mary Kay Cosmetics, Avon, Fuller Brush, Jafra Cosmetics, Conklin Products, Watkins, Party Lite, Discovery Toys, Picture This, Creative Memories, Scrap in a Snap, Daisy Blue Naturals, Tastefully Simple, The Pampered Chef and Southern Living at Home.
&045; The Audubon Science Center will hold a walking taco fund-raiser from 4:30-7 p.m. at 1416 W. Main St. Cost is $4 for adults, $3 for children and preschoolers eat free. The menu includes build-your-own beef or bean taco with fixings, bars and beverages. The Audubon Science Center is an education outreach branch of the Albert Lea Audubon Society. Proceeds go to fund educational displays. Discovery Toys will also be on site with displays of educational toys for purchase. A book fair will also be held. Registration forms for the Monday Science Club (grades 2-4) and Science on Saturday (preschool through first grade) will be available for families.
&045; The Story Lady Doll & Toy Museum will hold a fish fry fund-raiser from 5-7 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club. Cost is $7 per person.
&045; Albert Lea Community Theatre presents &uot;Death of a Salesman&uot; at 7:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea Civic Theatre. For tickets, call the box office at 377-4371.
Saturday, April 5
&045; Ascension Lutheran Church, 1101 Highway 69 S., Albert Lea, will hold a rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Morning coffee will be served for a freewill donation. There will be a $2 bag sale from noon-1 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Mission Partner Congregation in Kentucky. Funds will be matched by Thrivent.

&045; The Albert Lea National Guard Homeland Readiness Group will hold a fish fry from 4-8 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion. Cost is $7.

Sunday, April 6
&045; First Lutheran Church in Glenville will hold a pancake breakfast from 7:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The menu includes pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee. Freewill offerings will be received. The proceeds will help send the youth group to Atlanta this summer.
&045; A benefit breakfast for Tom Trappe will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Albert Lea Union Center. A freewill donation will be received. Trappe is 23 years old and was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 2001. This benefit will help his family with medical expenses. There is also a benefit account set up at Wells Fargo Bank under his sister’s name: Jennifer Trappe.
&045; The Morin Lake Days build-your-own omelet breakfast will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Alden-Conger School. Toppings available include ham, cheese, mushrooms and black olives. The meal includes hash brown pattie, muffins, orange juice and milk. Cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12, and kids under 5 eat free. Proceeds will help defray expenses for the Alden 125th anniversary celebration, scheduled for June 24-27, 2004.
&045; A Dad’s Belgian Waffles breakfast, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, will be held from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Emmons Lutheran Church. Cost is $5 per person. Children 5 and under eat free. Take outs are available. Proceeds benefit Bible campus and ELCA youth.
