ALHS baseball team just misses season’s first victory at Faribault

FARIBAULT &045; A frustrating season continued for the Albert Lea High School baseball team as it dropped both ends of a Big Nine doubleheader at Faribault Tuesday.
After falling 10-0 in five innings in the opener, the Tigers came frustratingly close to their first win of the season while losing the nightcap 12-11 in eight innings. Albert Lea left town 0-12 in the Big Nine and 0-13 overall.
Dave Heijerman, Ryan Truesdell, Adam Wacholz and Derek Goodnature had one hit each for the Tigers in game one. Brandon Klukow started and pitched 4 1/3 innings, taking the loss.
&uot;We didn’t play very well,&uot; said coach Joe Sczublewski. &uot;It kind of got away from us toward the end.&uot;
Game two was back-and-forth, with the Tigers holding a 9-4 lead at one point.
&uot;We just couldn’t hold them down,&uot; said Sczublewski. &uot;It was a tough one to lose.&uot;
Nate Loberg was 3-for-4, Wacholz 2-for-2 with a home run, Goodnature 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, Klukow 2-for-4. Truesdell, Josh Diaz, Nick Veldman and Dave Villarreal each had one hit. Heijerman took the loss in relief of Goodnature.
The Tigers play Thursday at Rochester Mayo.
