ALHS golf girls notch first win

FARIBAULT &045; At the start of the season, first-year head coach Shawn Riebe said he wasn’t sure if the players on his Albert Lea High School girls’ golf team believed they could win.
Now they have no choice.
The Tigers picked up their first win of the season Thursday at Faribault Country Club, where they finished second in a Big Nine triangular. Faribault won with 361 strokes for 18 holes. The Tigers had 426 and Rochester John Marshall had 483.
&uot;It was nice for us to get a win tonight,&uot; said Riebe. &uot;We knocked 20 strokes off our last round. I think the girls were really happy to get the win. Now we can keep moving and knocking some more strokes off.&uot;
Brie Woitas led the Tigers with a 100, followed by Kaeli Wayne, 102; Catie Rebelein, 110, and April Heilmann, 114. The medalist was Faribault’s Katie Miles with a 77.
The Albert Lea junior varsity won its third meet in a row, shooting 250 for nine holes. Faribault had 265, JM 285.
Brooke Woitas was the medalist with a 61. Kyra Danneker shot 62, Faren Culp 62, Ali Demmer 64.
The Tigers are off until next Thursday, when they face Winona and Mankato East at 2:30 at Albert Lea Country Club.
