Briefs: Colonels host Rochester Saturday

The Albert Lea Colonels are scheduled to open their Southern Minny League schedule Saturday with a 6 p.m. game against the Rochester Royals at Hayek Field.

The Colonels opened the 2003 amateur baseball season with a 3-2 victory over Northfield last Friday. They travel to face the Austin Greyhounds Wednesday in a Southern Minny League game before returning to Hayek to face the Minnesota Lake Royals in a 7:30 p.m. non-league game.

U of M fund event June 9

The University of Minnesota Scholarship Fund will begin its series of summer golf outings on Monday, June 9, at Albert Lea Golf Club.

Join head men’s basketball coach Dan Monson, head volleyball coach Mike Hebert, head men’s golf coach Brad James, athletic director Joe Maturi, and other members of the University of

Minnesota athletics staff for golf, dinner and a chance to win various door prizes. The three head coaches will be the featured speakers during the dinner program.

Wrestling Golf Classic May 31

The 8th Annual Albert Lea Wrestling Golf Classic is set for Saturday, May 31 at Green Lea Golf Course.

Registration, which includes golf, T-shirt and pork chop dinner, is $50. Several prizes will be awarded. The tournament is four-person, best-ball format.

All proceeds from the event benefit Albert Lea wrestling.

Summer hockey school July 14-27

The annual Albert Lea Summer Hockey School is set for July 14-27.

Instruction will be provided for all age groups.
