For Albert Lea residents who want to clean out their house, help clean up their neighbor’s, or just see their city councilor at a dumpster, the next two weekends will be prime time.
For the next two Saturdays the city of Albert Lea is having its &uot;Hometown Pride Event.&uot;
&uot;It’s an opportunity for community members to clean up their yard, clean their neighbor’s yard and clean up their city,&uot; Mayor Jean Eaton said. &uot;It all comes back to hometown pride, making a community everyone is proud of.&uot;
On both Saturdays, the city will have a free trash bin behind the civic theatre at Broadway Avenue and Water Street for people to drop off household garbage. Eaton said they will not be accept appliances, furniture, tires or things of that nature.
The receptacles will be provided by Waste Management and Thompson Sanitation. One Dumpster will be available each weekend starting at 9 a.m. After they are filled, they will be removed.
The city landfill will also be open two extra hours each day during those weekends, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The costs for dumping will still be the same.
Eaton said the city is undertaking the project to clean up the city in general, to promote community pride and build community relationships.
