Clifford R. Sime, 82, Kiester

Clifford R. Sime, age 82, of Kiester, died Monday, May 19, 2003, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. The Rev. Dick Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, May 22, at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 5-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in Kiester with military honors by the Kiester American Legion Post.

He was born on Feb. 10, 1921, in Winnebago County, Iowa, the son of Olaf J. and Andrine (Hauge) Sime.

Clifford graduated from Kiester High School in 1940. He enlisted in the John Deere Battalion of the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was in partnership with his dad and brother, Sylvan, at Sime Equipment Company in Kiester in 1939, and retired in 1983.

He married Elaine Evenson on Feb. 2, 1947, in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Clifford was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Kiester American Legion Post #454, and had served on the Kiester Volunteer Fire Department and Kiester City Council. He had also served on the Naeve Hospital Board of Trustees and the Waldorf College Board of Regents. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Kiester; two daughters: Carol Sime (husband John Grafstrom) of St. Paul, and Molly “Susan” (husband Jim) McLaughlin of Bellingham, Wash.; one son, Robert Sime (wife Margaret Andrea Wood) of St. Paul; four grandchildren: Brita and Peter Grafstrom of St. Paul, Sean McLaughlin of Bellingham, Wash., and Colette Sime of St. Paul; one step-granddaughter, Andrea McLaughlin of Bellingham, Wash.; two sisters: Alma Flo of Kiester, and E. Marjorie Fjone of Kiester; two brothers: Milton (wife Selma) Sime of Lake Mills, Iowa; and Wayne (wife Erlis) Sime of Albert Lea; and one brother-in-law, Odvin Fure of Woodbury.

He was preceded to death by his parents; two brothers: Sylvan, and John in infancy; and two sisters: Norma Fure and Olive Wogen.
