Edward Gordon “Gordy” Carlson, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 14, 2003. He was surrounded by his family at home at his time of death.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, May 17, at 10:30 a.m. Interment is immediately after the service at Hillcrest Cemetery followed by fellowship with family at the church.
Gordy was born on May 15, 1932, in Superior, Wis., to Oscar Gordon and Florance Ann Carlson.
On Nov. 1, 1952, he married Wilma Jane Dunlap in Walnut Creek, Calif. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in November 2002.
Gordy graduated from high school in Superior, Wis., and served in the United States Air Force from 1949-1953. He worked as a meat cutter at National Tea, Wilson Foods, Farmstead Foods and El’s Fine Foods until his retirement at 65 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; three sons and their wives: David A. and wife Shelly of Faribault, Mark E. and wife Jackie of Albert Lea, and son, Henry G. and wife Pauline of Albert Lea. He also is survived by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who were the joy of his life.
Gordy was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Beula Carlson; and mother- and father-in-law.
He was a longtime member of the amateur radio club and enjoyed his ham radio hobby. Gordy also enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking and spending time with his family.
He will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him.
