Funeral services for Jacobina Veldman, age 88, formerly of Hollandale will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2003, at Hollandale Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Gary Brouwers will officiate. Interment will be in Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2003, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Jacobina died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Albert Lea Good Samaritan Center.
Jacobina Veldman was born Feb. 28, 1915, to Pieter and Jacoba (Schoonbeek) Wetsema in the Netherlands. She attended teacher’s training and taught school for 10 years in the Netherlands. On Oct. 4, 1945, Jacobina was united in marriage to Henry Veldman. In 1951, the couple immigrated to the United States. Jacobina was a member of the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, knitting, embroidery, crocheting, singing and music. Jacobina was involved in various church groups and the Hollandale Christian School.
Survivors include her children; Heiko and wife Joyce Veldman of Apple Valley, Minn., Cobi and husband Marlowe Wangen of Hayward, Tena and husband Ron Prins of LaCombe, Alberta, Canada, Martha Veldman of Northfield, Peter and wife Sue Veldman of Hollandale and Alice and husband Kevin DeBoer of Racine, Minn.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sister Eltje Loonstra of the Netherlands; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jacobina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry and one brother and six sisters.
Memorials preferred to the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church.
