BLAINE &045; If any member of the NRHEG girls’ track and field team had any ideas about being disappointed, Duey Ferber was there to issue a quick reminder.

&uot;Fifth place is not too shabby,&uot; said the Panthers’ co-coach.

That’s where the Panthers finished in Saturday’s True Team state meet at the National Sports Center in Blaine.

All things considered, not the least of which was senior standout Camille Kyte being slowed by illness, Ferber and co-coach Mike Weber were quite satisfied to see the Panthers come home with ribbons for every team member.

&uot;We didn’t have any major problems today,&uot; said Ferber. &uot;Everybody did what they could do. Realistically, at full strength, the best we could have gotten was fourth place. I think we did pretty well.&uot;

Mayer Lutheran topped the nine-team field with 471 points, followed in the top three by Tracy-Milroy-Balaton with 415.5 and Cedar Mountain with 394. The Panthers totaled 329.5.

Senior Nicole Lonning had the lone first for NRHEG, winning the shot put. She was third in the discus.

Alison Anderson, a freshman was second in the 100-meter dash, seventh in the 200 and seventh in the long jump.

The top relay was the 4×100, where Kalisha Anthony, Kyte, Brandis Hagen and Anderson finished third.

Kyte, who competed for the first time in two weeks after contracting mononucleosis, took sixth in the 200 and 12th in the 100. She did not run the 400.

&uot;I was a little disappointed with my 100 finish, but there wasn’t much I could do,&uot; said Kyte. &uot;Physcially, I feel real well. I just don’t feel my legs were going as fast as I wanted them to.&uot;

The 100 hurdles, where Kelsie Hansenand Anthony finished 3-5, and the pole vault, in which Anthony and Megan Groskreutz went 4-6, were strong events for the Panthers.
