Arlene C. Hillman, 83, Glenville

Funeral services for Arlene C. Hillman, age 83, of Glenville, were held today, Wednesday, June 25, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. John Holt officiated. Interment was in East Freeborn Cemetery.

Arlene died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Arlene Constance Hillman was born Jan. 12, 1920, to Solomon and Christina (Solomonson) Oakland in Winnebago County, Iowa. She attended christian school and high school in Leland, Iowa. Arlene lived most of her life in the Albert Lea area except for six years in Knapp, Wis.

On Jan. 16, 1947, she was united in marriage to Kenneth B. Hillman. Arlene worked as a licensed and bonded USDA Inspector at Land 0′ Lakes and Armour. She was also employed at Wilson & Co. during World War II. Arlene volunteered for nine years at Victim’s Crisis Center and Help Line, Meals On Wheels, Red Cross, and Lake Mills Care Center. Arlene was a member of First Lutheran Church and active in many of the church’s organizations. She liked cats, cows, and living on the farm.

Survivors include her son, Paul Hillman and his special friend, Polly Vande Kamp; grandchildren: Christine and husband Jim Ratelle, Ryan and wife Amber Hillman, and Lori Hillman and fianc Jeff Smith, great-grandchildren: Kaleb Hillman, Jakob Ratelle and Mikayla Hillman; son, Allan Hillman, grandchildren: Julie and husband Robert Aamodt, Tracy Hillman, and Amy and husband Chris Rosenthal; great-grandchildren: Tess Haukoos, Isaac Haukoos, Aaron Aamodt, Cory Aamodt and Scott Aamodt; two brothers and three sisters; and nieces and nephews and grandnieces and nephews.

Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth, in 1983; and several brothers.
