Steven Edward Neumann, age 39, of Minneapolis, appeared in Freeborn County District Court Thursday morning on four charges based on a car chase that ended in southeast Albert Lea on Tuesday afternoon.
Court records show Neumann was charged with a felony count of fleeing a police officer, a gross misdemeanor charge of driving after cancellation, and misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and speeding.
Neumann’s encounter with authorities reportedly started with a disturbance in Hayward. His car was observed on South Shore Drive near Rooster Hill by a Freeborn County Sheriff’s Department deputy. A high speed chase resulted, which ran on several city streets, the Halverson School parking lot and lawn, and ended when Neumann’s car collided with a deputy’s vehicle on Frank Hall Drive. A short chase on foot followed and Neumann was arrested. He was taken to the Freeborn County Jail.
Judge James E. Broberg set Neumann’s bail at $10,000 without conditions and $5,000 with conditions at the Thursday court appearance. Neumann posted a $10,000 bond and was released from custody.
Neumann’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 23, court records show.
