EMMONS &045; The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team was down to its final three outs.
None were needed.
Richie Mathis led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single, stole second and scored on a double by Matt Learn, lifting G-E to a 3-2 victory over Blooming Prairie at Emmons Saturday.
The home team won despite being outhit 7-4 and committing four errors, improving its record to 2-1.
&uot;It was a well played game except for the four errors,&uot; said coach Louie Toulouse. &uot;Obviously, we got some timely hits. We made some nice plays defensively, even though we had the four errors, and Michael Greibrok pitched a great game for us, keeping us in it the whole seven innings.&uot;
Greibrok went the distance on the mound, striking out five while walking one. Both of Blooming Prairie’s runs were unearned.
After spotting the visitors a 1-0 lead in the second, G-E took advantage of a two-run error in the sixth, when Michael Greibrok’s two-out fly ball was misplayed in left field.
Learn’s game-winning hit was his second double of the game in two at-bats. Nathan Cooper was 1-for-1, Mathis 1-for-2.
G-E faces New Richland at 7 p.m. tonight at Emmons.
