Patricia A. Chapek, age 69, of Austin, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center.
She was born Sept. 14, 1933, in Austin to Richard and Freida (Douglas) Downs.
Patricia grew up in Austin and in 1951 she graduated from Austin High School. In August 1957, she married Elmer Chapek and together they had two sons. They divorced in 1984 but remained friends. She worked as a veterinarian assistant and worked for various political organizations. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, sung in the Chancel Choir for years, League of Women Voters in Albert Lea and Groundswell (organization which fought for farmers’ rights).
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 20, 2003 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, Austin, with the Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Austin. Visitation will be held at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary, Austin, today from 4-8 p.m., and Friday from one hour before the service at the church.
Casket bearers will be John Chapek, Chad Williamson, Doug Chapek, Randy Chapek, Ralph Bryant, Willis Hanson, Verne Olson, Tim Anderson, Shawn Anderson and Robert Dolan Jr.
She is survived by sons: Greg Chapek of Truman, Minn., and Brian Chapek of Austin; granddaughter, Danielle Chapek of Albert Lea; sisters and brother-in-law: Evon and Robert Troester of Austin, Dixie Hanson of Austin, and Kathy Anderson of Austin; and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorials preferred to American Cancer Society or the First United Methodist Church of Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Norma Lee Downs.
