Selmer Andersland, 78 of Scarville, Iowa, died Thursday evening June 19, 2003 at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2003 at Scarville Evangelical Synod Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa with Rev. Thomas Rank officiating.
Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Sunday evening at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday morning.
Burial will take place at the Scarville Evangelical Synod Cemetery near Scarville.
Selmer was born July 3, 1924 in Nunda Township, Freeborn County, Minnesota, the son of Ole and Brita (Okland) Andersland. He attended country school in Nunda Township and graduated in 1941 from Emmons High School. After graduation he started farming the Andersland farm, northwest of Emmons.
He was united in marriage to Agnes C. Brudvig at Scarville Lutheran Church on Dec. 21, 1948.
Selmer and Agnes farmed until 1977 when they semi retired and moved to Brainerd, Minn. where they owned and operated Andersland Resort on Gull Lake. Selmer also worked for Lake Edwards Township. Selmer officially retired in August 2000, after selling their lake property and returned to Emmons.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Agnes Andersland of Emmons; his seven children: Steven of San Antonio, Texas; Bruce and his wife Beth of Emmons; David and his wife Tammi of Hawaii; Craig of Emmons; Michael and his wife Deb of Gainesville, Mo.;
James and his wife Anessa of Apple Valley, Minn.; and Christine and her husband Kurt of Blaine, Minn. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jennifer and her husband Joey, Steffen, Eric, Ryan, Aaron, Kendall, Anthony and his wife Heather, Joshua, Andrew, Scott, Megan, Joel, Emily, Lars, Tova, Jamie, Jenna and his great granddaughter Michaela Jara. Brothers: Clarence Andersland of Albert Lea; and Orlando (Phyllis) Andersland of East Lansing, Mich.; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Selmer was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ida Rasmussen, Louise Andersland and Olga Madison; and one grandson, Nathan.
