Willis Edwin Swehla, 94, Wells

Willis Edwin Swehla, age 94, of Wells, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Parkview Care Center in Wells after a short stay there.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. The Rev. Eugene Stenzel will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday, June 28, at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 4-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church, with rosary at 1 p.m. Interment will be in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells.
Willis was born on Dec. 29, 1908, in Clear Lake, Iowa, to George and Anna (Stork) Swehla. He married Gladys Grunzke on Jan. 17, 1939, in Albert Lea.
He farmed his entire life in the Alden and Wells area. After moving to Wells in 1976, he enjoyed spending time gardening and doing yard work. He was the Faribault County Farmer’s Union membership chairman for many years. He had a sustaining membership in the state DFL party and was active at the Faribault County level. He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. His favorite past times were playing cards and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys Swehla of Wells; two sons: Dennis and wife Linda Swehla of Easton, and Steve and Wife Jane Swehla of Wells; grandchildren: Tina and husband Jeff Cole, Mike and wife Jill Swehla, all of Winnebago, Kevin and wife Lindsay Swehla of Shakopee, Kari Swehla and Chad and wife Angie Swehla, all of Wells, Diane Swehla of St. Paul, and Bradley Swehla of Wells; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Schultz of Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Louie, Leo, Charles and Lester; four sisters: Nellie Severtson, Ida Dropik, Eunice Liebhaber and Cleo Stenzel; and one son, Allen.
