Elaine Baer makes sure she doesn’t spread herself too thin.

&uot;I’d rather volunteer for a few things and do a good job at it,&uot; she said.

Baer is the president of Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library. She has been involved with the group since she retired from working at the library for 37 years.

At the library, she worked with the library’s catalog. She also worked on putting the library’s database online.

While she was employed with the library, Baer saw all the good work that Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library were doing. This enticed her to join the group when she retired.

&uot;I thought it was such a worthwhile group,&uot; she said.

Friends of the Albert Lea Public Library works on raising money for any needs that the library might have. This could include paying for speakers, bookmarks, the summer reading program and anything else that might come up.

Baer is involved with many other groups in the area but holds her work with the library close to her heart.

&uot;I enjoy doing it,&uot; she said. &uot; I can do some good.&uot;
