Carmen Mickelson, 89, Dodge Center, Minn.

Carmen Wratz-Zeek-Mickelson, age 89, was born on Oct. 5, 1913, in Spring Valley, Minn., passed away on July 8, 2003, at Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center, Minn.

She was married in 1931 to Howard Zeek and lived on a farm in Spring Valley. Howard passed away in 1945. After Howard’s death, Carmen and her three daughters moved to Rochester. Carmen worked as a beautician at Massey’s for 11 years. Those daughters are Annette Harrison of Rochester, Jean Nadler (Richard) of Sacramento, Calif., and Mary Stopinski of North Brunswick, N.J.

She married Alvin Mickelson in 1958 in Minneapolis. They lived in Albert Lea from 1958-1964 when Alvin passed away. Carmen and her son moved to Clarks Grove after Alvin’s death. The son, Richard Mickelson and his wife Joni and family live in Bloomington.

Other family members include 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Two brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Carmen enjoyed her cat, Dee Dee, reading, writing, word search, cooking, Bible study, gardening, traveling, playing cards and dancing. Carmen was a member of the Albert Lea Grace Lutheran Church and also was very active in a women’s circle group with the Methodist Church in Kasson, Minn.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., July 26, at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Private interment will be at Spring Valley Cemetery in Spring Valley.
