Editorial: Accessibility important to bring business

An idea doesn’t always have to be revolutionary or earth-shaking to make a difference. A good example is a new initiative spearheaded by the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services.

Seeing that retail prospects would often call the Chamber office and wind up referred to the wrong places to get the information they need, the Chamber took a simple but wise step by adding a link on their Web site where any interested developers could go to get information on available sites as well as contact information or details on how to get help with a business plan. In essence, they set up a one-stop shop for potential developers.

This is the kind of low-cost, high-yield move that can make a difference in creating a more business-friendly environment in Albert Lea. At a time when economic development seems more important than ever, anything the community can do to be more accessible is good &045; not only for outside parties who may want to move into town, but also for people who are already here. The Chamber and FMCS should be congratulated for a good idea.
