Gena C. Peterson, 92, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Gena C. Peterson, age 92, of Albert Lea will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 7, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagmeister will officiate. Interment will be in Clarks Grove Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today, July 6, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services on Monday.
Gena died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Gena Christina Peterson was born Feb. 24, 1911, to Peder and Betsy Carina (Mortenson) Solberg in Manchester Township, Freeborn County. She was baptized and confirmed at West Freeborn Lutheran Church. Gena graduated from Freeborn High School in 1930. On Sept. 26, 1930, she was united in marriage to Mark G. Peterson in Albert Lea. The couple farmed in Bath Township from 1938-1971, when they moved to Albert Lea. Gena had been an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church since the 1950s. She was a 4-H adult leader for several years and had been employed as head cook at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea. Gena was also an assistant group home foster parent at Starlight Home for boys.
Survivors include her son, Dale and wife Joyce Peterson; daughters: Delores and husband Dwight Karsjens, Judy and husband James Gallagher, and Susan and husband Dan Kelly; daughter-in-law, Mary Hoeft; grandchildren: Randy Peterson, Lisa Peterson, Mary Beth Larcom, Michael Neal, Cory Gallagher, Michael Gallagher, Kari Gallagher, Ryan Gallagher, Joseph Kelly, Cindy Rigotti, and Linda Billau; great-grandchildren: Ethan and Emily Peterson, Courtney and Ian Gallagher, Matt, Bradley and Will Gallagher, Brianna and Neal Larcom, Brandon Neal, and Joseph and Nick Rigotti; and step great-grandchildren: Steven and Taylor Samudio.
Gena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mark; son, Riley Peterson, brothers: Ed and Joe Solberg; sister, Clara Haram; and son-in-law, Frank Neal.
Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or St. John’s Lutheran Home.
