Funeral services for June I. Schmid, age 84, of Albert Lea will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 7, 2003, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Piper will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday.
June died Monday, June 30, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
June Irene Schmid was born June 22, 1919, to Percy and Frances (Brownlee) McGibbon in Superior, Wis. She graduated from Central High School in Superior in l938. In September 1941, June graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the Minnesota National Guard Nurses during WWII and was on the Women’s Rifle Team. On Feb. 11, 1950, June was united in marriage to Walter Schmid at Manitoux Falls Church, south of Superior, Wis. Walt owned a heating and air conditioning business and June was the bookkeeper. June worked most of her life in nursing including 12 years at St. Luke’s in Duluth, three years at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and 37 years at Naeve Hospital, mostly in obstetrics. She also attended the University of Minnesota at various times during her nursing career. June was a member of First Presbyterian Church and Naeve Nurses’ Assn., and for more than 50 years belonged to Easter Star Halcyon Chapter #21. Walt and June enjoyed a trip to Switzerland in 1985 to visit Walt’s family. They also spent many enjoyable years at their cabin. June liked swimming, reading and the music of Elvis and Glen Miller.
Survivors include her sons: Ronald and wife, Terri of Hudson, Wis. and Rick and wife, Jan of Hibbing; and brother Donald McGibbon of Madison, Wis.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
June was greatly loved by all family and friends.
