Construction on Main to be wrapped up soon

Anyone who has driven down Main Street to its intersection with Highway 13 is probably thinking: &uot;Didn’t they do this last year?&uot;

According to Jim Roberts, a Minnesota Department of Transportation official and project engineer for the construcion, it’s not the same.

Last summer, a renovation project that reached from East Main Street and Broadway Avenue to Highway 13 ripped up and resurfaced the road. But there were some areas that weren’t touched, Roberts said. They are now being done.

The pavement between the traffic light at 13 and U.S. Highway 69 and the start of the bridge in front of Skyline Mall has been milled off and is being replaced.

Then, from Broadway to the railroad tracks west of Ermina Sreet, the pavement will also be removed and replaced.

The work is being done, Roberts said, because the road quality has deteriorated. The construction should be done within the next few days.

&uot;We’re hoping to pave (Friday),&uot; he said. &uot;Then we’ll be back next week for striping.&uot;
