The city of Albert Lea closed East Front Street from Frank Avenue east to Garfield Avenue yesterday, Aug. 18. Reopening of the street is scheduled for Oct. 31. Work will include removal and replacement of the concrete road surface, raising of the road level in the areas of sags, and replacement of storm sewer piping.
Driving lane restrictions will be placed in effect on East Front Street between Broadway Avenue and Frank Avenue beginning today, August 19. Two-lane traffic will be maintained along this section of East Front Street except for brief road closures for concrete paving. The south half of East Front Street between Broadway and Frank Avenue will be closed beginning today, while the contractor makes repairs to pavement joints and road surface. Work will begin on the north half of the street when the south half is opened.
The contractor for the project is Sorensen Bros., Inc. of Albert Lea. The consulting firm of Yaggy Colby of Rochester will be managing the construction. Project costs are $994,000.
