Leo G. Wipplinger, 74, Kiester

Leo G. Wipplinger, age 74, of Kiester, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at his home in rural Kiester of complications of cancer.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Kiester. The Rev. Richard Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 8, at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 5-8 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery, Kiester.

He was born Jan. 27, 1929, in Kiester Township, Faribault County, the son of John C. and Lillian (Hintz) Wipplinger. He was baptized on Feb. 17, 1929, and confirmed on April 18, 1943, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Kiester.

He lived in Kiester Township all of his life and farmed over 50 years, retiring in 1994. He was a distributor and salesman for Archer Oil and enjoyed farming, reading and traveling. He was a loving husband and father, active in his church and community.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and served on its council and cemetery board and also served on the council of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He served on the Kiester Township Board for 25 years and on the Kiester Elevator and Creamery Boards.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Wipplinger of Kiester; one son, Gary Wipplinger of Tacoma, Wash.; one daughter, Gail (husband David) Frein of Austin; three grandchildren: Daniel, Lisa and Mark Frein; one brother, Art Wipplinger of Albert Lea; one sister-in-law, Gwen Rowley of Kiester; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lois Folven and her husband Jim; sister-in-law, Sharon Kaye Wipplinger; father-in-law and mother in-law: George and Aurora Cox; and brother-in-law, Keith Rowley.
