Albert J. Edwards, 77, Hollandale

Funeral services for Albert J. Edwards, age 77, of Hollandale, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Hollandale Reformed Church. The Rev. Mark Volkers will officiate. Interment will be in Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Albert died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at his son’s home in Hollandale.

Albert Joe Edwards was born Aug. 26, 1926, to Albert and Eva (Aartsen) Edwards in Oskaloosa, Iowa. His family moved to Hollandale when he was four years old where he lived and farmed, retiring in 1991.

Albert was an amateur Golden Gloves boxer in his teens. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was stationed in Japan. On April 16, 1948, Albert was united in marriage to Alice Ravenhorst in Hollandale. She preceded him in death March 29, 1996.

Survivors include his children: Joyce and husband Clark Marshall of Woodbury, Gerald and wife Becky Edwards of Hollandale, and Joan and husband Michael Thomas of Eden Prairie; grandchildren: Beth and husband Bill Perron of Woodbury, Clark Marshall III and Andrew Marshall, both of Minneapolis, Mitch and wife Amy Edwards of Rockford, Laura and husband Jamie Baudoin of Rochester, Brad Edwards of Duluth, Kelly Thomas and Christopher Thomas, both of Eden Prairie, and Rachel Edwards of Wheaton, Ill.; brothers: Raymond and wife Corrine Edwards of Hollandale, and Harold and wife Betty Edwards of Emmons; and sister, Doris and husband Jim Adams of Waldorf.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; son, Robert; and brother, Donald.

Memorials are preferred to the Hollandale Reformed Church.
