A man who allegedly headbutted and attempted to kick an Albert Lea police officer is facing charges of obstructing arrest or legal process with force, disorderly conduct and fifth-degree assault.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Friday the man, Michael Anthony Madrigal, 27, of Alden, had been drinking in the Nasty Habit in Albert Lea when a witness outside the bar told police someone had hit an employee. Police found the employee, Lawrence Schiming, who said Madrigal had been trying to leave the bar through the back. When told he couldn’t, Madrigal began pushing Schiming and ripped his shirt, the employee said.

When told by two officers to leave the bar, Madrigal continued drinking and officers escorted him out.

Outside the bar, Madrigal began yelling at the police. At one point he spit just behind an officer and made an obscene gesture.

At that point they decided to arrest him for disorderly conduct. But he refused to be handcuffed and locked his hands in front of his chest. After police finally handcuffed him, he tried to kick an officer. As they walked him to the jail, he headbutted an officer in the chest and knocked him back a step, then tried to kick him.

He continued to struggle as the police hauled him to jail.
