Memorial services for Gayle K. Sauer, age 61, of Albert Lea, will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 11a.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Lager-Hagemeister will officiate. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Hampton, Iowa. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Gayle died on Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her home.

Gayle Kathryn Sauer was born on Dec. 25, 1941, in Forest City, Iowa, the daughter of Verle and Virginia (Washburn) Sauer. Gayle attended and graduated from high school in Iowa and attended Mount Marty College in South Dakota. She moved to Albert Lea in 1986. Gayle was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and enjoyed raising houseplants. She also enjoyed country music and crocheting.

Gayle is survived by her mother, Virginia Sauer of New Hampton, Iowa; sisters: Steph and husband Gary Altfillisch of Albert Lea, and Barb and husband Ken Roberson of Oelwein, Iowa; nephews: Peter and wife Nicole Altfillisch, David Altfillisch, Joe Altfillisch, Tony and wife Betzy Roberson and Justin and wife Joelynn Roberson; and great-nephews: Justus, Jaren and Tyron.

Gayle was preceded in death by her father, Verle Sauer, and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorials are preferred to St. John’s Lutheran Home.
