Funeral services for Gladys A. Jahnke, age 96, of Albert Lea and formerly of Alden, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden. The Rev. Peter Soli will officiate. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today, Sept. 2, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
Gladys died on Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Gladys Adella Jahnke was born on Dec. 8, 1906, in Bricelyn, the daughter of John and Josephine (Johnson) Leland. She grew up on her family’s farm near Bricelyn and attended country school. On Dec. 14, 1935, Gladys was united in marriage to Henry Jahnke. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Alden where she was active in the Ladies Aid, circles and a quilting group. Gladys enjoyed cooking and other family activities of all sorts.
Survivors include her son, Wayne and his wife Sharon Jahnke of Albert Lea; her niece, Julie and her husband Douglas Morrison of Freeborn; grandchildren: Michael Jahnke of Alden, Christine Jahnke and her husband Paul Hagen of Washington D.C., and Lisa Jahnke of Elysian; grandniece, Angela and her husband Gary Geesman of Alden; grandnephew, Brent and his wife Diane Morrison of Rosemount; brothers: Wallace and his wife Ada Leland of Cheyenne Wyo., Gerald and his wife Adeline Leland of Bricelyn, and Kenneth and his wife Della Leland of Albert Lea; sister, Marion and her husband Vernon Jahnke of Albert Lea; and many other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry; brothers: Hobart, Irving, Leon, Edgar, Orlando and Allen; and sisters, Mildred Kortes and Viola Burkhow.
Gladys will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends.
