Wolverines shut out Lanesboro

GLENVILLE &045; Maybe it’s not a rebuilding year after all for the Glenville-Emmons volleyball team.

Or maybe things are just coming together faster than expected.

Whatever the reason, the Wolverines played their best match of the season Thursday while defeating Lanesboro 3-0 at Glenville, winning 25-11, 25-19, 25-22.

&uot;Overall, it was our best team effort of the year,&uot; said coach Lisa Ziebell. &uot;The girls played with a lot of intensity. They wanted to win and they played like it. Each game, we’re improving. Things are looking up for us.&uot;

The Wolverines served 96 percent as a team while improving their record to 3-4 in the Southeast Conference and 3-5 overall.

Thursday’s statistical leaders: Megan Bjorklund seven kills, 16 digs, 4-for-4 serving; Becky Ericksen five kills, 9-for-10, two aces; Ellen Hansen six kills, 15-for-15, three aces; Amanda Epland four kills, 11-for-12, two blocks; Stephanie Peterson nine kills, four digs, 5-for-5, four blocks; Jordan Claussen 15 assists, 14-for-14; Amanda Weiss 10-for-10.

&uot;It was a total team effort, the best I’ve seen so far from these girls,&uot; said Ziebell.

The Wolverines’ next match is Tuesday at Grand Meadow.
