DeBoer provides pet foster home

Christa DeBoer loves animals.

So much that they might not leave once they enter her home.

DeBoer volunteers with the Humane Society of Freeborn County as a foster parent.

DeBoer admits it can be hard to let go of an animal once it has been adopted. She said that she often becomes attached to the animals.

&uot;We try to keep in mind that if they can go to some great place, it’s worth it,&uot; she said.

DeBoer started volunteering around six years ago. She stopped for awhile after she adopted one of the dogs, but has since started up again. She said the reason she fosters is because she wants to see the animals get help. DeBoer said a lot of the animals that come to the Humane Society have been treated badly in their lives and deserve something better.

&uot;They can’t help themselves,&uot; she said.

Fostering involves feeding and housing the animals, as well as taking them to veterinary appointments.

Right now, the humane society is without a director, so the volunteers have pulled together to keep the operation going. DeBoer and other volunteers have been going to the office at night to answer and return phone calls and to complete other office tasks.

The humane society is in need of foster home volunteers.
