Dorothy C, Selland, age 83, of Moorhead, died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead.
Dorothy C. Johnson was born to Henry and Clara Johnson on Jan. 13, 1920, in Albert Lea.. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School. She managed Buttrey’s Clothing store in Albert Lea and Grand Forks, N.D. She married Benjamin Arthur Selland on June 20, 1947; they settled in Fargo. While in Fargo, Dorothy managed the FM Stamp Store and also managed St. Luke’s Hospital Gift Shop for several years. In 1970, they moved to the Twin Cities where Dorothy managed two hospital gift shops and was in charge of volunteers. They returned to Fargo in 1982. Benjamin died in 1983.
Dorothy is survived by her son, Dr. Bradford Selland of Boston, Mass.; her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Dr. Richard Rohla; three grandsons: Benjamin, Robert and William; three sisters: Violet Matthies of Albert Lea, Janet Schwartz of Pleasanton, Calif., and Shirley and Ken Oman of Albert Lea; and six brothers: Henry and Marge Johnson of Enumclaw, Minn., Robert and Evie Johnson of Albert Lea,
Richard and Debra Johnson of Eden Prairie, Minn., Roger and Donna Johnson of St. Louis Park, Ken and Evie Johnson of Bemidji, and. Larry and Sandy Johnson of Albert Lea.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters: Clara, Gilmore and Betty Westrum.
Dorothy was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. In recent years, she has lived at the Fairmont at Eventide in Moorhead, and Waterford Memory Care Unit in Fargo. Her faith gave her great comfort.
Wherever mom went she wore a smile and had a song on her lips.
The funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 17, at I p.m. in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 16, from 5-7 p.m. in Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
