Herman J. Miller, 90, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Herman J. Miller, age 90, of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Rev. Douglas Smither will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is two hours prior to the services on Monday at Bayview.
Herman died peacefully surrounded by family at Good Samaritan Center Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003.
Herman John Miller was born Aug. 30,1913, to Hans Jeppe and Agnes Marie
(Sorenson) Miller in Freeborn County. He accepted the Lord and was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. Herman later joined the Calvary Baptist Church in Albert Lea. He attended School District No. 39. On Nov. 4, 1943, Herman was united in marriage to Virginia Lund in Owatonna. He served two years in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the American Legion. Herman worked at Wilson packing plant for a short time but left to pursue farming. After 25 years of farming, he retired and worked at Miami Margarine (Ventura Foods). In 1978, he retired from Miami Margarine. Herman enjoyed working in his workshop crafting items out of wood, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed his time and memories with his fellow co-workers at Miami Margarine. Herman’s patience, sense of humor, bravery and his loving and encouraging ways will be forever missed. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Albert Lea; daughters: Gloria and husband, Dale Schroeder of Glenville, Elaine and husband, Harry Bergwall of Atlanta, Ga. and Colleen and husband, Kevin Bates of Wichita Falls, Texas; son, Larry Miller of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Brian Bergwall, Cory, Cody, and Kari Bates and Stacia, Kelly and Bonnie Schroeder; sister, Helen Pechacek of Ellendale; and several nieces and nephews.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Einer, Serinus, Fremont, Raymond, and Albert; sister, Alta Schnibly; step-brothers, Jens and Verner; step-sister, Martha Miller; grandson, Jason Bergwall; niece, Sandra Ingersoll; and sisters and brothers-in-law.
