Hilma G. Flo, 87, Bricelyn

Hilma G. Flo, age 87, of Bricelyn, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003 at the United Hospital in Blue Earth.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn. The Revs. Patricia Hinkie and Edward Nieman will officiate. Visitation will be at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, and visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery in Seely Township, Faribault County.

She was born Sept. 25, 1916, in Whitman, N.D., the daughter of Knut and Caroline (Severson) Knutson. She married Arlo Flo on Dec. 9, 1939, at the Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn.

Hilma grew up in North Dakota and graduated from Petersburg High School in 1936. She lived her entire adult life in the Bricelyn area. She was a member of the Bricelyn Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA, circle and altar guild. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway in Albert Lea. Hilma enjoyed gardening, traveling, embroidery, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.

Hilma is survived by her husband, Arlo Flo of Bricelyn; three daughters: Hilare and her husband Jerry Klose of St. Cloud, Linda and her husband Donald Umberger of Denver, Colo., and Sylvia and her husband Terry Halverson of Kiester; one son, Arwin Flo of Bricelyn; nine grandchildren: Jennifer and husband Philippe Abbey of Castaic, Calif., Jeffrey and wife Kari Hamele of Sydney, Australia, Jill Hamele of St. Louis Park, Clark and wife Debbie Mikkelson of Willard, Mo., Bill Mikkelson of Springfield, Mo., Ann Page and special friend Rocky Kerns of St. Joseph, Mo., Melissa and husband Terry Hintz of Shakopee, David and wife Julie Halverson of State Center, Iowa, and Tina and husband Cory Palmer of Litchfield, Minn.; 14 great-grandchildren: Broden, DyLynn and Becken Abbey, Evan Hamele, Megan and Lane Mikkelson,

Charity and River Page, Emma Kerns, Preston and Ethan Hintz, and Hailee, Joseph and Payton Halverson; two sisters: Gina Hove and Anna Hylland of Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa; two brothers-in-law: Ronald Flo of Kensett, Iowa, and Dale and wife Barbara Flo of Le Seuer; five sisters-in-law: Glorian Kennedy of Albert Lea, Lorna Anderson of Albert Lea, Joanne and husband Harry Green of Albert Lea, Donna Arneson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Mavis Flo of Albert Lea; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Hilma was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Emma Kvavig and Clara Larson; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
