Roger J. Campbell, 82, Lyle

Funeral services for Roger J. Campbell, age 82, of Lyle, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Faith Lutheran Church, London. The Rev. Reuben Unseth will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodbury Cemetery, rural London. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., today, Oct. 7, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, Albert Lea, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Roger died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, Iowa.

Roger James Campbell was born on Sept. 19, 1921, in Otranto, Iowa, the son of Dewey and Rose Campbell. He grew up and went to school in Otranto. After high school, Roger worked at the elevator in Otranto with his father, driving a semi. He later worked as a Maytag repairman for Gambles in Austin. Roger went into the banking business and was retired from the London State Bank. He was on the board of the Austin Salvation Army for over 50 years, served on the Woodbury Cemetery Board, and was a former member of the Lyle Lions Club. Roger enjoyed singing and playing the autoharp, camping, motorcycling, and traveling. He was also an ordained minister.

The greatest joy in life that Roger had was leading a soul to Christ. He was always willing and ready to have a church service for anyone who needed him. He enjoyed having services at rest homes. He would always bring his autoharp and play and sing. He played and sang at many funerals and church services.

Survivors include his children: Mary Palumbo and Anna Gunion; grandchildren: Dustin Steinbrink, Adam Steinbrink, Charity Steinbrink, Cody Steinbrink, Cheyanne Steinbrink, Brandon Gunion, Vanessa Gunion, and Angelle Gunion; and great-grandchildren: McKenzi Steinbrink, Emma Steinbrink, Jordan Steinbrink, and Alexis Steinbrink.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Arlene; and his daughter, Patty.
