While hunting enthusiasts go out to try their skill this weekend, a group of area women will be doing their part to secure waterfowl habitat for years to come.

The sixth annual Ducks Unlimited Freeborn County Ladies’ Chapter Harvest Moon Luncheon will be Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Albert Lea American Legion, 142 N. Broadway Ave. Registration begins at 11 a.m. and lunch will be served at 11:30. Proceeds from the luncheon will help support wetlands projects.

Tickets for the luncheon are $35, and can be purchased in advance at Ben’s Floral and Frame Design and Andersen Hallmark stores. They are also available at the door. All women are welcome.

There will be prizes, games and fun, according to Debbie Beighley, chairwoman of the luncheon along with Cathy Johnson. The chapter was begun six years ago.

&uot;We have a lot of community support with this event,&uot; Beighley said.

Ducks Unlimited Supporters provide hope for generations of waterfowlers, she said, ensuring an abundance of waterfowl and securing habitat.

&uot;Ducks Unlimited’s mission is to fulfill the annual life cycle of North American waterfowl by protecting and enhancing resources and managing important wetlands and associated uplands,&uot; Beighley said.

The Ducks Unlimited U.S.A. habitat program began in 1984. Over 500 wetland projects have been completed in Minnesota alone. Nationally, there are over 7.5 million acres of habitat in all 50 states, she said.
