The Albert Lea U-13 girls’ soccer team needed a win or a tie to claim the South District title.

On Saturday second-place Eagan came to town with its sights set on the championship. The game lived up to expectations. The first half was a see-saw battle with many Albert Lea shots just missing the goal. Eagan scored early in the second half and Albert Lea fought back to tie it midway through the period. Both teams fought off strong attacks and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The tie gave Albert Lea the South District title and ensured the locals a spot in the fall MYSA State Harvest Festival tournament held next weekend in Cambridge.
