The Rochester Mayo Spartans didn’t do anything fancy.
They just did it very well.
The Spartans, featuring two tough outside hitters, came to town Tuesday and handed the Albert Lea High School volleyball team a 3-0 setback in a Big Nine match. The game scores were 25-18, 25-17, 25-11.
&uot;They had a strong hitter out there in both rotations,&uot; said ALHS coach Gina Eppen, whose Tigers were seeking their first home win of the season. &uot;We kept it tight early, but they just pulled away from us.&uot;
The Tigers’ individual leaders: Amber Edwards three kills, three blocks, two aces; Danielle Rankin one dig, nine kills, two blocks; Katie Brackey seven assists, 10 digs, four blocks; Jenna Brackey four assists, seven digs, two kills, one block; Heather Stegenga one dig, one kill, five blocks; Emily Bartusek four digs, three kills, one block.
The Tigers host Rochester John Marshall in their final home match of the season Tuesday.
