GLENVILLE &045; The third time was not the charm for the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines.
But they kept it close again.
The Wolverines, who earlier this season lost one-touchdown decisions to opponents rated among the top 10 in the state, hosted No. 4 ranked Nicollet and lost 14-0 at Glenville Friday night.
&uot;Our kids played as hard as they could and did a great job,&uot; said Wolverines co-head coach Al Christensen. &uot;We had some turnovers that hurt us, but you have to credit their defense. Our kids played very, very hard and never gave up.&uot;
Nicollet led 7-0 at halftime, adding its second touchdown in the third quarter.
A 60-yard pass from Mike Yocom to Seth Buchanan got the Wolverines to the Nicollet 6-yard line in the fourth quarter, but they turned it over with an interception.
The Wolverines also had another key injury when Kris Knutson hurt his hamstring in the first quarter.
Yocom finished 4-for-9 for 77 yards and two interceptions. Tony Walk led the Wolverines in rushing with 39 yards on 12 carries.
G-E’s defensive leaders: Wade Flattum seven tackles, one interception; Derek Lau nine tackles; Justin Flattum 4.5 tackles, fumble recovery; Josh Semrau seven tackles, Wade Johnson 6.5 tackles.
The Wolverines fell to 3-3 in the Southern Confederacy Conference and 3-4 overall. They play Wednesday at Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther in the final game of the regular season.
