AUSTIN &045; It didn’t matter what the Glenville-Emmons Wolverines brought to the net.

Most of the time, the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs were there to block it.

“It’s the most we’ve been blocked all year,” said coach Lisa Ziebell, whose Glenville-Emmons volleyball team saw its season end with a 3-0 loss to JWP in a sub-section tournament match at Austin Thursday night.

But it wasn’t just JWP’s defense that spelled defeat for the Wolverines. It was a combination of things.

“They’re also a very good offensive team,” said Ziebell. “They have three strong hitters. You see a lot of teams with two, but they’ve got three. And we did not play our best. We played well at times, but it’s not the way I was hoping to end the season. I know we could have done better.”

The Wolverines’ statistical leaders: Megan Bjorklund 6-for-7 serving, 6 kills, 6 digs; Becky Ericksen 9-for-11 serving, 7 kills, 3 digs; Ellen Hansen 6-for-6 serving, 1 ace, 1 kill, 18 assists, 2 blocks; Stephanie Peterson 7-for-8 serving, 2 blocks, 1 kill; Jordan Claussen 7-for-7 serving, 2 aces, 5 kills, 34 assists; Alicia Reyerson 3-for-3 serving, 3 blocks, 3 kills. Mallory Paulson, Chelsea Ziebell and Miranda Kral played well defensively.

“All in all, I’m happy with the season,” said Ziebell. “It would have been nice to win a tournament match, but the girls gave 100 percent, and that’s all you can ask. It’s been an enjoyable season.”
