Ben Woodside got it out of the way early.

One of the most highly recruited basketball players in the state, the Albert Lea High School senior verbally committed Thursday night to North Dakota State University.

&uot;Basically, Ben is happy with his decision and we’re happy for him,&uot; said Woodside’s father, Paul. &uot;It’s been a long process. I know right now he’s feeling good and looking forward to the high school season.&uot;

NDSU moves up to Division I next year, and Woodside would be only the second Albert Lean to play basketball at the Division I level. Joe Kenis, a 1979 ALHS graduate, played at Mercer College in Georgia.

Woodside’s commitment won’t be official until the Nov. 12 national signing day. He’s the ninth Minnesota high school senior to commit early.
