Memorial services for Robert E. Nelson, age 80, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. Tim Hellie will officiate.

Visitation is one hour prior to the services at Bayview.

Robert died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at his home.

Robert Edward Nelson was born Jan. 2, 1923, to James A. and Nettie B. (Bothum) Nelson in Albert Lea. He attended country school and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1943. On June 3, 1944, Robert was united in marriage to Ardith L. Hillman in Albert Lea. He farmed until 1974 and had also been employed at Universal and Wilson & Company, retiring in 1978. Robert had been a lifetime resident of Freeborn County and was a member of Congregation of Jehovah s Witnesses. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and talking and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Ardith of Albert Lea; son, Lowell and wife Ilonka Nelson of Albert Lea; daughters: Nora, Nona, and Renae Nelson, all of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Gloryana and her husband Andy Shimek of Eagan, and Shannon Nelson of Winona; brother, Harold R. and his wife Eleanor Nelson of Rochester; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Judith; and brothers: Luverne, Lester, and Glen.
