12-and-under hockey girls skate past Luverne

LUVERNE &045; The Albert Lea 12-and-under girls’ hockey team traveled in style, taking a coach bus to last Saturday’s game at Luverne.

The locals responded with an impressive 5-2 victory.

After an apparent goal by Adison Wangen was disallowed by the referees, the visitors went on to a 3-0 advantage at the end of the opening period.

Nicole Wilson got Albert Lea on the board in the second period, scoring on an assist from Haley Habana. The second goal came on a strong shot by defenseman Jacqui Jepson, who fired from the blue line. Another outstanding play was made by Habana, who took a pass from Brittany Osmundson and beat the goalie with a precise shot.

In the second period Sophia Jepson scored following some strong work in front of the net by Wangen and Lauren Draayer. Habana also scored in the second.

Makenzie Boone, Lindsey Kirsch and Meagan Shahan had some close calls.

Erin Shahan was in goal for two periods for Albert Lea, with Sydney Conley playing the third.

Osmundson, Jacqui Jepson, Anna Anderson and Natasha Moyer led the defense.

Madi Passingham missed the game because of illness.
