Area teams finish 1-2 in Viking Invitational

NORTHWOOD, Iowa &045; The top awards stayed close to home in the 2003 Viking Invitational.
Lake Mills won the championship and host NC-NK was second in the annual wrestling tournament at Northwood last weekend.
The Bulldogs totaled 197 points, followed by NC-NK with 185, Turkey Valley 184, Mason City Newman 169.5, Byron 89, Rockford 86 and Cal-Dows 57. No final score was available for eighth-place North Iowa.
Lake Mills had seven finalists and three champions.
Finishing first were Brent Tweed, 103 pounds; Andy Leuwerke, 160; and Jake Koeppen, 275.
Runners-up were Cody Rognes, 112; Spencer Stensrude, 130; Andrew Knudtson, 140; and Andrew Hagen, 189;
The Bulldogs’ other placewinners: Stephan Schwartz, third, 119; Peter Brekken, fifth, 125; Jason Tritch, fourth, 135; Alex Langfald, fourth, 145; Tony Langfald, sixth, 152; Justin Kester, fourth, 171;
Four NC-NK wrestlers reached the finals and all four took the title: Jake Kliven, 119; Brett Trenhaile, 152; Jake Madsen, 171; Ben Miller, 171;
Other NC-NK places: Kory Ferden, fourth, 103; Adam Horstman, fourth, 112; Blaine Machlin, fourth, 125; Zach Willis, fourth, 130; Brendon Trenhaile, third, 140; Ryan Weisert, third, 160; Brett Reindl, fifth, 189; and John Coyle, third, 275.
Both teams are off until Tuesday, Jan. 6, when they travel to Osage for a triangular.
