Editorial: No one should feel sorry for Hussein

Please excuse us if we find it difficult to feel sorry for Saddam Hussein.
It’s easy to want to hurt this person beyond torture, but we don’t condone it. If TV reports are slightly humilitating for him, that’s too bad. You remember the sad images of his gassed victims &045; they too, were humiliated at his hands.
TV reports said at times he was belligerent and at times incoherent during questioning, responding to commands to sit or stand up, but that was all.
That’s no surprise: he was and remains a madman.
No true leader of people should harbor a desire to harm the very people he rules. Only insane people choose hurting others as a means to an ends.
While we don’t suggest he be treated inhumanely, neither do we think he should be given any better treatment than other prisoners of war.
The Iraqi people deserve to know this cruel ruler will be convicted of his crimes, will experience a suitable punishment and will live the rest of his day in this world in shame.
They deserve to know a better life with a leader who is truly looking out for their best interests.
Will the capture of Hussein bring about world peace? Probably not, but there will be a lot less violence with the removal of this violent person.
