June Arlyne Henderson, age 72, of Rush City, passed away peacefully Dec. 23, 2003.
June was born in Minneapolis on June 3, 1931. She was a graduate of North High School in 1949., Known as the most athletic girl in her class, she participated in basketball and softball at a time women were thought to be &uot;too fragile” to do so. She believed in equal rights for all people, and cared deeply about women’s rights around the world. She enjoyed watching all women’s sports programs, and was especially fond of the University of Minnesota women’s basketball team.
June was also the No. 1 fan of the Minnesota Twins, She loved all animals, but especially her dogs, which she held close to her heart turning each of them into special members of our family. She was an avid fisherwoman, loved bird watching, ice-skating as well as any other outdoor activity. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and friend, as well as a wonderful companion to her husband. Her warmth, compassion and concern for others, and sense of humor never deserted her. She leaves a loving legacy to us all, and we will miss her deeply.
The family would like to send special thanks and gratitude for their loving care and compassion to Dr. Cherly Baily, the nurses and staff of Abbott Northwestern Stations 30 and 31 and also to the hospice staff. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 7520 Golden Valley, with Rev. Mary Brown officiating.
Preceded in death by her parents Christian and Clara Iverson, and brothers Irvin and Earl Iverson. Survived by her loving husband Ray Henderson, daughter Kristin Henderson, sons Tim Henderson Tom (Kristen) Henderson, John (Theresa) Henderson, Paul Henderson, grandchildren Marta and Peter Ruohoniemi, Taylor and Justin Henderson, Jordan and Jenna Henderson sister Clarice Iverson, brother Vern (Helen) Iverson, sister Phyllis Rundquist, nieces and nephews and many other relatives. Also survived by close friends Lynn and Betty Stoker, Ralph and Carol Neumann, co-workers at the Intensive Care Unit at Naeve Hospital of Albert Lea, and neighbors at the Velvet Beach Trailer Park of Merrifield.
