Leonard F. Heiny, Jr., 87, of Austin, died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003 at his home.
He was born Dec. 14,1916 in Plymouth, Iowa, to Leonard and Mae (Wyborney) Heiny. He married Ruth Warrington on July 30, 1938, in rural Austin. Together they farmed in rural London for nearly 50 years. Leonard was president of the London Fireman’s Club and volunteer firefighters, 4-H Livestock Leader, and served on the Conservation Club Board for many years. He also served an the District 51 School Board. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Austin Eagles Club, and the Lyle Legion. He and Ruth spent 20 winters in Texas. He loved spending time with his family and friends, telling stories, horses, camping and fishing at Cherney’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Wilma Wilson and Doris Ashton, brothers George and James Heiny, mother-in-law Nina Warrington Heiny and grandson Darren Heiny.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with The Rev. Patricia M. Toschak officiating. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery. Visitation was at CIasen-Jordan Mortuary on Saturday from 4-6:30 p.m. and on Sunday at the church one hour before the service. Organist will be Becky Bissen and soloist will be Kiven Lakes.
Honorary bearers will be: Kim Underwood, Kris BaIdus, Chad Heiny, Tiffany Nowak and Wendy Whalen.
Bearers will be: Dale Heiny, Mark Heiny, Laurie Vitzhum, Wade Nelson, Dustin Nelson and Lance Whalen.
He is survived by- Wife: Ruth Heiny of Austin, sons and daughters-in-law:, Taryl and Phyllis Heiny of Austin, Gary Heiny and Marcy Warrington of Austin, daughters and sons-in-law, Sharyl and Eugene Nelson of Austin, Linda and Dennis Whalen of Lyle, grandchildren: Kim and Jack Underwood of Austin, Kris and Jeff BaIdus of Austin, Dale and Reggie Heiny of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., Mark and Christa Heiny of Austin, Laurie and Rod Vitzhum, of Wesley, Iowa, Tiffany and Scott Nowak of Wells, Chad Heiny of California, Wade and Beth Nelson of Austin, Dustin and Amanda Nelson of Austin, Wendy Whalen of Austin, Lance Whalen of Northfield, Minn., 23 great-grandchildren, sisters and brother-in-law: Opal and Wayne Stanton of New Hampton, Iowa, Goldie Von Feldt of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brother and sisters-in-law:, Sidney & Eileen Heiny of Austin, Pat Heiny, Austin, aunts:, Dolly Warrington of Austin, Vila Warrington of Lodi, Calif.
