Lowell Erwin Kormann, 79, New Richland

The funeral service for Lowell Erwin Kormann will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Richland. The Rev. Philip A. Lewison will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland, and one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be accorded by the New Richland Veterans’ Organizations.

Lowell died at his home in New Richland on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2003. He was 79 years old.

Lowell was born on July 24,1924, the son of Clarence and Agnes (Schroeder) Kormann. He lived most of his life in the Waseca County and Freeborn County area.

During World War II he served In the U.S. Navy from 1944-46, and with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1949-52. He served with the National Guard for several years.

On Dec. 27, 1951, he was united In marriage with Thelma Cassem in Mason City, Iowa. They are members of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Lowell worked for ALMCO in Albert Lea for many years and then as a model maker for Streaters in Albert Lea for 23 years. He retired in 1988 and at that time he and Thelma moved to Mission, Texas.

Lowell was a member of the New Richland American Legion for 53 years. He had also been a past member of the Albert Lea VFW, Moose and Eagles. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping and fishing.

Lowell Is survived by his wife, Thelma; three children: Debra (Tom) Berg, of Gifford, Wash., Lonnie (Teri) Kormann of New Richland, and Jeanne (Mark) Christenson of Hartland; nine grandchildren: Nathan (Stacy) Berg, Erin (Bart) Barrett, Kateri Berg, Jacob Berg, Stefan Berg, Bryan Kormann, JustinKormann, Jonathan Kormann, and Tabatha Kormann; one great-grandson, Alex Barrett; four sisters: Evelyn Holtz of Waseca, Audrey Stafford of New Richland, Edna Wenzel of New Richland, and Barbara (Harlen) Beyer of New Richland; two brothers: Gerald (Audrinne) Kormann of New Richland, and

Harlan (Virginia) Kormann of San Diego, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Betty Kormann of New Brighton, Minn.; one brother-in-law, Lester Wenzel of New Richland; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded In death by his parents; two brothers: Dale and Luverne Kormann; one sister, Marian Wenzel; and three brothers-in-law: Louis Holtz, Richard Stafford, and Lawrence Wenzel.
