Funeral services for Ruth E. Gentzhorn, age 90, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home.

The Rev. Kent Otterman will officiate. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Bayview.

Ruth died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Ruth Eleanora Gentzhorn was born Feb. 11, 1913, to Andrew and Lillie (Spoon) Anderson in Freeborn County. She attended schools in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School.

Ruth then attended and graduated from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing and worked at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, Ill.

While in Rockford, she married Arnold Gentzhorn.

She returned to Albert Lea and began working at Naeve Hospital.

Ruth was the first R.N. to run the dialysis unit. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, and reading.

Survivors include her sister, Helen Springborg of Albert Lea, and nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arnold; brothers: Paul, Lyle and Alvin; and sister, Alice.
