Bessie B. Nelson, 93, Glenville

Funeral services for Bessie B. Nelson, age 93, of Glenville, will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at Round Prairie Lutheran Church. The Rev. Tammy Dahlvang will officiate. Interment will be in Round Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.

Bessie entered into eternal rest on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Thorne Crest South.

Bessie Blanch Nelson was born July 10, 1910, to Louis J. and Josephine (Mudra) Belshan in London Township, Freeborn County. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Glenville by Rev. A. C. Korsrud. Bessie attended school in Myrtle and graduated from Austin High School.

On June 25, 1938, she was united in marriage to Donald Hartvig Nelson in Northwood, Iowa. Bessie was a member of Round Prairie Church and had been a member of the Mother’s Club of District #47 and the Homemaker’s Club. She was a 4-H leader, a member of the Women of the ELCA of Round Prairie Church and a member of the former Rebekah Circle at Round Prairie.

Bessie spent many hours in her garden, canning, baking, and sewing, especially quilts. She loved to share the bounty of her garden with neighbors and relatives. Her beautiful flowers were shared with many. Bessie arranged flowers for the church altar for many years. She was coffee maker for most events held at the church and made the best “egg coffee.” Bessie was always there at church cleaning time or to help with dishes at any church function.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of Glenville; daughter, Arlene and husband Jack Allison of Glenville; son, David and wife LaVonne Nelson of Glenville; grandchildren and families: Jody and husband Ken Horntvedt and daughter, Rachel, of Baudette, Michelle and husband Jeff Rayman and children, Chase and Cassie, of Glenville, Mary Jo and husband Pete Follmuth and children, Ryan, Brooke and Ashley, of Austin, Dan Nelson of Glenville, Mike and wife Rhonda Allison and children, Gavin, Nicole and Sara, of Glenville, Jean and husband Paul Spink and children, Calum and Morgan, of Dunham on Trent, England, and Jennifer and husband David Nortunen and children, Mia and Kieren, of Marengo, Wis.; sister, Edna Johnson of Northwood; sisters-in-law: Mabel Belshan of Austin, Lila Herth of Emmons, Edna Halvorson of Northwood, and Alice Nelson of Grand Meadow; and many nieces and nephews.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; infant grandson, son of David and LaVonne Nelson; infant great-grandson, Mathew David Follmuth; brother, Jerome Belshan; and sisters: Mary and husband Maynard Nelson, and Helen and husband Nolan Lang.
