Bud Mandt, 74, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Bud Mandt of 113 S. Seventh Ave. Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Theodore Catholic Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Kurt Farrell will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Theodore Catholic Cemetery, Albert Lea. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations.

Bud died of cancer on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004. Bud died at his home in Albert Lea where he was lovingly cared for by his family and supported by Crossroads Community Hospice.

Bud was born in Northwood, Iowa, on Nov. 6, 1929, the son of Henry and Nora (Taylor) Mandt. He was raised on a farm near Northwood, and attended country school. He worked for Wilson & Co. before entering the U.S. Army, serving our country in Germany from 1951 to 1954. After the service he returned home and worked for Wilson & Co. He was married to Kathryn Searle Sanders in Glenville on June 27, 1969. Bud had worked at the X-size Fashion Store in Clear Lake, Iowa, Lee Oakland’s Service Station, and at Gordy’s Shell Station for many years. He later worked as a janitor at Streaters until his retirement.

Bud was a member of the American Legion and VFW for more than 39 years and also a member of the Minnesota Sheriffs Association. Bud loved to watch and feed the birds. He enjoyed walking, listening to country western music, watching TV, enjoyed nature, and he always drove Cadillacs.

Bud is survived by his wife, Kathryn of Albert Lea; daughter, Shelly Barnett and husband Bruce of Waterloo, Iowa, and their children, Bethany and Noah; granddaughter, Amber and husband Zac Belote of Albert Lea and their children, Michaela and Isaih; father-in-law, Ray Searle of Albert Lea; brother-in-law, Don Roberts of Hackensack, Minn.; nieces and nephews: Gene and Jeannie Lytle of Colorado, Trudy and Wes Thomas of Colorado, Diana Silverstein of Colorado, Linda and Larry Rausch of Nebraska, Roger and Denise Wessels of Nebraska, Renae Roberts of Albert Lea,

Rhonda and Tim Cibert of Albert Lea, and Rebecca and Rich Shoop of Burnsville; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; son: Dale Sanders; daughter, Lisa Sanders; sister, Lucille Wessels, brother-in-law, Roger Wessels; sister-in-law, Karen Roberts; and mother-in-law, Marjorie Burns.
