Alfreda Jeanette Hopperstad, age 91, of Northwood, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with the Rev. Thomas Hagen officiating.
Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.
Alfreda Jeanette Hopperstad was born on April 29, 1912, in rural Worth County, Iowa, the daughter of Oscar and Annette (Breiseth) Baklund.
She was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church.
She graduated from Northwood High School in 1930. After graduating from high school she taught school in the Hartland Township School #5 for four years. She was united in marriage to Raymond A. Hopperstad in November 1936, at the Lutheran Parsonage near Northwood. After their marriage together they farmed in Hartland Township for 40 years.
Alfreda moved to Northwood in 1980, and later to Maple Court Apartments, and most recently to the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.
She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing cards, dancing, and traveling.
She was a very active member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Jerry Hopperstad and his wife Jan of Northwood, Lonny Hopperstad and his wife Mary of Albert Lea, Judy Hamilton and her husband Ron of Seminole, Fla., and Vicky Schmidt and her husband Gary of Fargo, N.D.; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; two nieces and two nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; and a sister, Olga.
